SUMMARY:Walnut Valley Metric
DESCRIPTION:ANNUAL WALNUT VALLEY METRIC \nThe Walnut Valley Metric routes travel through scenic Cowley County on gently rolling hills and lightly traveled secondary roads. Registration includes SAGs and lunch at Liberty Township School House.  The gravel route does include two “stone arch bridges” and two that you can ride to 1/3 of a mile from the route.  Several additional “stone arch bridges” are within .5 to .75 m on gravel from the 65 m road route.  There are only 1700 stone arch bridges remaining in the United States according to Cowley County website.  Interestingly\, 18 of those historical stone bridges are in Cowley County! \nProceeds from the ride benefit the Prairie Sunset Trail and Redbud Trail. \nNOTE: online t-shirt orders end 9/18/24. Water\, fruit\, cookies and other snacks will be offered. Restrooms will be available at SAG stops. SAG vehicles with water and mechanical assistance will run the routes. Riders unable to finish will be transported back to Winfield Recreation Center. Lunch will be available for all riders\, starting at 10:00 AM. \nThanks to Jimmy John’s for helping provide food for lunch and SAG stops. \nYour Health & Safety \nBe sure your bicycle is in good working order. Arrive early the day of the ride to check your bike and tires. \nOther things to remember: \n\nNo headphones or ear buds: you need to hear and be aware of those around you.\nCarry a tire pump and patch kit.\nFluid intake is very important: Remember to carry water bottles on your bike.\nEat before you are hungry and drink before you are thirsty.\nCyclists should ride not more than two abreast and should not impede the flow of traffic.\nStop for stop signs and red lights.\nCross railroad tracks at a right angle to prevent damage to your bike and possible injury to you.
